South from the Heart of Winter

I always used to know,
when the time to move the clock forward was around the corner.
I used to know
from the way I started to wake at 5 am,
and feel ready,
with the glowing sunrise, and the chirping birds,
which both were doing their best
to get my attention through the window.

Now, my mind didn’t know.
My heart couldn’t hear the signs,
as I woke in the same way
for weeks,
until suddenly
it was not 5 am anymore but 6.

And I wondered why,
until reasoning
put me on the map of my year.
It placed my body and mind
on the right hand curve.
The line that arches to the west from the top.

South from the heart of winter.

And I knew then:
I am half way down this side of the circle of the year.

Half way to the heart of summer.

This, I used to know,
before knowing.
Expect instinctively.
Trust in its arrival.

Now, as I’m busy building anew,
and my heart is searching to settle,
it is as if I was wandering blind along the street,
happened by an old friend,
and after a blink,
remembered how it always is with nature.
